Tour Description

Pitti is a wonderful and majestic palace in Oltrarno, the “other side” of the Arno river, with more than six hundred years of history that today homes different museums as the Galleria Palatina. This is one of the richest and most complete art gallery in the world!

For example, did you know that the largest collection of Raphael paintings is displaied right here?

To pass through the regal rooms, once inhabited by the members of the Medici family and admire hundreds of masterpieces that the same lords of Florence collected during their dominion over the city, under the coloured frescoes that decorate every room, is a wonderful experience.

WHAT DO WE VISIT IN THIS TOUR?

Palazzo Pitti has been a real royal residence in Florence. It stands at the foot of the extraordinary Boboli Garden and is undoubtedly the most magnificent Florentine palace.

After a brief introduction on its history and on the events related with its most famous owners, the Medici family, we will reach the Galleria Palatina. This part of the collection of the family is incomparable.

We cannot miss the important works by one of the greatest genius of the Renaissance: Raphael, as already said, this is the biggest collection of Raphael’s paintings in the world! If you don’t know the Madonna della Seggiola; La muta; la Velata; or his portraits and the selfportrait is a great opportunity to admire them and discover a lot of stories of this master.

Is there only Raphael’s works here? Not at all! There are also splendid paintings by Botticelli, one of Caravaggio: the sleeping cupid, and portraits by Tiziano. Beautiful frescoes decorate the ceilings of the rooms and finally we will walk in the Royal apartments where even Vittorio Emanuele II, first king of Italy, lived for almost six years, during the period in which Florence became capital of Italy.
